“I once made a bet with Jurgen Klopp,” he wrote. It was 2010 and I was in Dortmund for a few months. Jürgen wanted to challenge me. If I score 10 goals in training sessions, he will give me 50 euros.
“If I didn’t, I’d give him 50 euros. For the first few weeks, I had to pay almost every time. He was laughing. But after a few months, things turned around. I was the one who made the big bucks. .
I can talk to Jürgen about anything. I can trust him. He’s a family guy and he’s very empathetic about what’s going on in your private life. Jürgen has never forgotten that we are human beings first and football players second.
“Jürgen is more than just a father figure to me. He’s not content to make you a B student. Jürgen wants an A+ student. He doesn’t want to give it to him. He wants to give it to you. He taught me a lot.
“When I arrived, I wanted to do everything fast. Jürgen calmed me down. When I put it down, he challenged me to speed up. He slowed me down to speed me up. It sounds easy , but it’s genius.”
